Sunday Morning Sacrifice: Jay’s Giving Up Coffee For You
Sun, Aug 24, 2008
I decided at 11:44pm on Saturday night, while drinking an XL coffee from Tim Horton’s, that I must make a sacrifice for you this morning. For those of you who don’t already know, caffeine is my lifeline. My blood type is fine grind. I cry tears of Vanilla Hazelnut.
I’m not ashamed of what I’ve become because we all have our crosses to bear, but this morning my addiction will be confronted.
Why did I choose to detoxify my body in this Sunday Morning Sacrifice?
Nothing so much enhances a good as to make sacrifices for it.- George Santayana - American philosopher and poet.
Up until a few weeks ago, I didn’t really do much on SuiteJ.com. I was getting about 20-30 Google visits a day from a few random posts that I wrote for fun, and that was about it. This week, I wrote two posts that I thought people might actually benefit from and my stats showed improvement as a direct result of them:
- I broke the triple digits in daily visitors
- I broke the double digits in subscribers
Now, I know what you’re thinking!
“Oh great! Jay’s got like 10 or 11 subscribers so now he’s going to sell out and charge $1100/month for 125 x 125 ads on his sidebar!“
NO! That’s not how I roll! This will probably surprise you, but I’m not even going to throw up a Hostgator banner or tell you to buy Bookmarking Demon!
Instead, I’m going to sacrifice something I love to show my appreciation to you guys. It may not seem like much, but trust me, no coffee for a mere hour or two is mild torture for me.
I don’t usually keep track of what I spend on caffeine daily, but for this particular Sunday Morning Sacrifice, I guesstimate that the local coffee shops will be about $20 short on their typical sales for the day.
3 Of You That Comment On This Post Will Be Treated To Coffee On Me!
By drinking water out of a dixie cup all morning, I am saving $20 so that I can spread the love to 3 of you.
So how does that amount break down into 3 coffee servings for my friends?
It’s very simple…
Here’s How To Get Jay’s Coffee Money:
All you have to do is leave a comment with the following specifics:
- Tell me why you love coffee
- Tell me what you like or dislike about one of the two posts I’m referring to
These are the two posts:
- How to create a cool logo design fast with no design skills
- How to avoid being scammed by fraudulent buyers
Who Gets What?
- #3 Comment Gets $3 For A Medium Coffee
- #7 Comment Gets $7 For A Large Coffee And A Muffin
- #10 Comment Gets $10 For An XL Coffee And A Scone
IMPORTANT: The first comment you make is the one that counts for you. You’re welcome to comment as much as you like after the 10th comment, but only one comment per person until the first 10 are made. No, it wouldn’t be fair to comment several times with aliases, so those wouldn’t count.
Basically it sucks to be the “tweeners”, but I had to make it interesting, and those might end up being me anyway. Of course, I may be sleeping since I’ll be caffeine-free for the day.
Don’t forget to subscribe to the rss feed or via email!

Way to kill your comments Jay! LOL
Do I get anything for going first? Not that I think $3 would stretch to much more than a mouthful of coffee in London!
I thought your post about paypal scammers was awesome and gvae you some much deserved link love in a recent AP post. It was very informative and made me fell slighty more comfortable with the whole process of selling sites.
August 24th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
LOL@ Nota Bene: You and I might be the only ones that find it funny.
I’d buy you a coffee anytime regardless dude.
LOL@ “liking my article for the link love”.
Thanks for coming over man!

Well, I don’t drink coffee, but I loved both of your posts! They were really interesting. Can I exchange my coffee for a sammich? lol

Jay,
I figured that most people will not want to post yet because this is a tweener location, but I figured what the heck and would do it anyway to move your competition along.
If you can sacrifice your coffee, I can sacrifice a win of the contest.
Coffee - I don’t like it, but would have used the cash to buy beer. Now, I love beer in moderation, which it seems you need learn about coffee. LOL!
Create a Nice Logo - I don’t like the article because you used the word nice. If you trace the etymology of the word nice, you will find that it means the total OPPOSITE!!!! That is wild, but I figured you would never get that response on this site. Look it up in a dictionary. The etymology of words is in the large [brackets]. Most schools teach us not to read the brackets, but they are critically important.
I teach my children to study the etymology of words. It does wonders for their comprehension and use of the dictionary. (I know, I am waaaaayyyyy off subject, but being honest.)
I like the post because I have never heard of any of those sites, but will check them out. Besides, that was a kick azz Go Green logo. Simple and powerful!
Flipping Friday’s post - I love this one because the competition at SiteFlipU.com has me totally fired up about flipping a site. This was practical information for protecting yourself in an auction by using the escrow. Sweet!
I know I will not be creating a site that will go for thousands of dollars yet, but you never know. Besides, I am going to give it a shot!
Good idea for this post and don’t go crazy without the caffeine, Jay!

@Freddie:
“If you can sacrifice your coffee, I can sacrifice a win of the contest.”
That’s awesome man. You’re the type of person I want to be hangin’ with.
On top of your sacrifice, you took the time to leave a kickass, detailed post! Now Karma owes you a coffee.
You’re right on the logo post. Although I didn’t know that about the word “nice” (thanks for the lesson!), I definitely could have used a better title in general. I thought of that when it was too late. lol
You weren’t way off subject, and I’m glad you are honest. I asked for dislikes too. Hey, if I’m spending my time here, I don’t want to add stuff that nobody wants. That would suck for both of us.
Glad you liked Flippin’ Friday’s post. Yeah, that 24 hour competition was crazy. If the Net Fool accepts challenge #2, we get to see it go down live! lol
Hopefully those guys work out the differences that are starting to heat up though.
I’ll try and add some more “fun stuff” in future Flippin’ Friday posts, but I thought that the info in the last one was important for people who are getting started.
Thanks again Freddie, and good luck flippin’!
I’ll try to get through the day caffeine-free. You know I’m firing up a pot of strong homebrew as soon as the clock strikes midnight, right!? lol
Cheers!

Coffee? Ewgh! But if it comes with a free muffin I’ll take it.
And I just love your post on how to create a nice logo without having any design skills. It has plenty of pictures and actually shows us the step-by-step process of how to do one. I do tutorials like that on my site too, and I must say, you did a very nice job.

Congrats! Email your PayPal (jay at suitej dot com) and I’ll hook you up with a $7 muffin since you don’t drink coffee.
What’s up with you guys not drinking coffee? I can’t even fathom the idea of living life without a caffeine injection to kickstart the day, or evening for that matter. lol
Thanks for the comment on the logo design post. I’m glad you liked it. I thought about doing a screencast, but then decided more people would probably want to reference the steps in writing, etc.
I’ll have to check out your tutorials!
Cheers!

Darn it! Where was I this morning!
Well, I don’t like coffee neither anyway —
And the two posts were wonderful; nothing were wrong with any of them from my point of view.
One thing sucks though Jay,
I after I read the Photoshop post, I went to get to work only to find that I don’t have Photoshop!
I never used it before, but I assumed it came with my OS — it didn’t!
Know a place where I can download a free one Jay?

Hey…. I am #10… i am gonna switch it up.
1) I hate coffee because I dont like the taste I dont like the way it makes people’s breaths smell….. it’s expensive… and uggghhh… (but my wife loves coffee so i still wanna win)
2) What i love about the logo article is it’s ease, and it may even help me to make a few extra bucks on digital point logo contests.
Hopefully you’ll accept this entry!

@Luis: That sucks, BUT you can still apply the basic techniques/ideas using any image editing program. The onyl thing you can’t do is down;oad and install “photoshop shapes”.
You can get a free trial of Photoshop straight from Adobe. As far as illegal copies, you know I don’t know that!
Thanks for the comment and for being a “tweener” at #9! lol
Cheers! Jay

@LBB: Congrats dude! LOL @ hating coffee.
Email your PayPal (jay at suitej dot com) and I’ll hook you up with a muffin. Since you obviously despise coffee, maybe you could buy a pack of tic tacs with the rest of the money and share them with your friends that have coffee breath. lmao.
Thanks for showing up, thanks for commenting, thanks for hating coffee, and thanks for liking the logo article.
Cheers!

Jay,
It is too difficult to get back to your home page. The only way I found is that little home button in the footer.
Come on man, you got to at least link the logo at the top. That is standard, right?
Just trying to help!

@Freddie, Yeah I’m well aware of that man. lol. I have been trying to think of what to do in that regard, because there’s some other stuff (navigation/more features) I’m adding as well, but I’ve just been really busy.
I’ll get you a home link man….soon….promise….lol.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:28 am
Good you are aware. You can’t just make the logo a link? Or is the logo part of the background or something?
Getting above my head, but it seems a simple with the logo will make it happen.

Yeah, I could do it, but without explaining eveything, it’d take some time, and I have plans to change/add to that image anyway.
There’s a temporary home button for you at the top right of the site now Freddie!
August 25th, 2008 at 9:38 am
LOL! Thanks Jay, I appreciate that and I am sure your readers will as well.
Ok, I figured there must be something to it. You have that elaborate logo and all. Please don’t clutter my head with the details that I am not ready for….well not ready for it yet. Learning a lot right now.
How are you doing with 24 hours of no coffee under your belt?
The moon didn’t fall out of the sky, did it?
August 25th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
Damn all you non coffee drinkers that won coffee
Just thought I would save your recent comment box from looking like the Freddie & Jay show!
Nice contest Jay…and great comments Freddie. I am seeing more and more of you around and it it’s good to see you getting invlved here too. I think it was I that first pointed out about the home button when Jay did his redesign……and it takes you to ask in order to get action taken! Cheers
Whats up with that Jay?
August 25th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
@ Neal:
Yeah! I sure learned what NOT to give away at this site. Who the Hell works at their computer 10 hours a day and doesn’t get juiced up on caffeine?
LMAO@ the home button. I know you pointed it out first man, but Freddie was here like every 8 minutes posting about it, sending me HTML tips etc.
Dude sent me HTML For Dummies in the mail! It was getting out of hand.
August 26th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
@ Jay
You got the HTML for Dummies book, huh? Put it too use!
LOL! You guys are a blast!
