Networking

Joining Social Networking SitesOne of the new things I have to commit to is participating in the social media sites more regularly. Despite years of long hours online, I haven’t really engaged in social networking, aside from a few sporadic Stumbles and the occasional Digg. I do already have profiles set up on a few of the big ones though, so for the most part, it’s a matter of adding/editing some information and then jumping in with both feet. Besides being a great avenue for promotion and networking with like-minded people, it’s also a great chance for me to please Lady Karma by trying to giving back to the community. After receiving so much valuable information from so many great people out there in the past few month, it’s the least I should do!

The flip side to making social networking a priority is being sure that I don’t spend too much time on the social media sites and have my other work progress suffer because of it. I think I’ll actually try to schedule in my social media time. That way, I put in the effort on a regular basis, but also don’t caught up in browsing for fun and stray from other tasks.
Do you schedule in your social time? If so, have you found it easy to stick to with all the great stuff out there to keep you occupied?

If, like me, you were thinking of becoming more active on social media sites, there’s a great post on Darren Rowse’s ProBlogger site that gives a few simple, but valuable, social media marketing tips and how it can play an important role in getting your name out there and establishing yourself.

Maybe I’ll see you around! :)
