Why Website Flipping Is Too Easy
Fri, Sep 26, 2008
Welcome to another edition of Flippin’ Fridays, a weekly post on website flipping.
Last week I had outlined 5 easy steps on how flipping your first website could be accomplished over the weekend. I know there’s quite a few of you who have been wanting to flip your first website, so hopefully those steps lit a fire under your buttocks and you followed through. If you did, let me know! If not, that’s fine too. I understand that for some of you, website flipping is too easy.
Why wouldn’t you do something that’s easy?
The mentality most of us have when we see something that seems too good to be true, especially online, is to attack it instead of embrace it. This stems from the fear that we will be duped, scammed, humiliated, and ridiculed.
It’s not your fault. Most of us have this type of built-in skepticism when looking for ways to make money online. I approach anything new in a similar fashion, but I never knock it ’til I try it.
As a follow up to last week’s simple steps to you first flip, here’s a list of why website flipping might be too easy for you.
There’s Too Much Free, Step By Step Information
You might be the type that prefers to just keep hunting down the latest and greatest step by step ebook, report, guide, or stone tablet. If there’s this much free step by step information out there, imagine the secrets that must be bottled up somewhere in that website flipping guru’s laboratory! You might as well wait until he unleashes it for $199 and then you can conquer the website flipping world - unless of course another product is set to launch shortly after that one that’s worth waiting for.
There Are Too Many Excellent Wordpress Themes Available
You already use Wordpress and have installed themes before so it’s not a challenge to get a brand new blog running on a new domain. Plus, have you seen he amount of themes available? These website flipping guys even claim that using premium themes on their site flips drastically increase value a large percentage of the time. Buying something relatively cheap or creating something free to add extra value to a website flip just sounds fishy to you.
The Perfect Niches To Sell Are Chosen For You
Finding niches and keywords is hard! If you haven’t done it yet, you might have read about it and there’s lots of tips and tricks to learn that’s for sure! However, when you are planning to flip a website, it’s too easy to choose a niche. All you have to do is go to SitePoint marketplace and use the search function to view the completed auctions. What niches are selling most often and for the most money? Bingo! There’s your niche! You just found out what buyers want within the actual marketplace that you will be listing your website before you build it. You’re right, that is pretty easy!
Most Sites Sell Between 24-48 Hours
Typically, sites sell fast, and often within 1-2 days. You can have your site sold and transferred within a day sometimes. You’re worried about selling on SitePoint for your first time, but that’s been made easier for you as well. It’s like the Easy Gods are mad at you.
You Won’t Have To Buy And Read 8 More Products This Weekend
Sometimes you will unknowingly develop a psychological association to information with a price tag as being better information. You buy more and read more on the same techniques without ever trying the basics. Why? because it’s harder, and it’s more expensive, so it must be worth more! It’s too easy to read 5 simple steps and make a little extra cash.
The point I’m trying to make this week is one that can be applied to most money making ideas online and not just website flipping. In fact, it can be applied to other areas of your life. If something appears to be too easy or too good to be true, give it a shot before you make up your mind. Don’t sabotage yourself by looking for ways to make it hard.
If you have any questions about website flipping or selling on SitePoint, feel free to hit me up!
Subscribe to the rss feed or via email so you can get more stuff that’s way too easy!
Cheers!
Jay

LOL…I love the interesting angles at which you view things! Reading between the lines there is some great information. I would question the sanity of anyone who has been reading suitej who has not already got stuck into site flipping!
You can’t make it any easier for people

My favorite line of this post:
“If something appears to be too easy or too good to be true, give it a shot before you make up your mind. Don’t sabotage yourself by looking for ways to make it hard.”
Classic!! Well said, Jay, you da man! It is very simple. I have to flip another one soon, just to keep the momentum going.
Great tip on going to sitepoints marketplace for your niches. That is quick, easy, and free. I am on it!
Good stuff!

Flipping is just so trendy right now. I wonder if the money will still be there in a few months.

Hey Jay - you are gonna make me a flipper soon. With all the WP templates out there how can you go wrong. I will keep reading “Flippen Fridays” What a great theme for Fri the end of the week for workers - Not the Flippers - seems like you are at it 7 days a week. Well thats better the more work the more money LOL
And you have to love the free stuff - Its all about making things easy - great artice

@ Adam - The market of buying, selling, and flipping websites will always be there because it’s virtual real estate. As long as the Internet is alive, there will be the quest to build your portfolio - if that’s what you do. The niches will fluctuate, and the mediums (sitepoint) will change, but the supply and demand will always be there.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
@ Adam - I agree with Elijah. Flipping sites will always be around and profitable as long as the Internet is still function.
The fact of the matter is your site, the product, just has to have value to the buyer. Value is in the eye of the beholder and if you don’t attract a buyer willing to purchase, then no sale.
But there are buyers out there for just about anything. I love to use this one, but I have you ever heard of the Pet Rock. They sold rocks in the 70s for money and PEOPLE BOUGHT THEM!!!!
Build a site that has value and someone will buy it from you.

Another great post Jay. If this post can’t convince somebody to at least TRY site flipping they need to be shot. Ok, maybe not shot.

@Nota Bene: Well, I could make it easier and flip a site for them.
@Normal Joe: You gotta at least flip one man. Not ImWithJoe.com though. Keep that one!
@Freddie: Glad you like that one. Self-sabotage is my arch-ememy, so I know what I’m talkin’ about.
@Adam: It might be trendy to blog about it, but “a quality website as an investment” isn’t a product that’s going to go out of style like beanie babies. People have been buying/selling domains and websites since the 1800s.
@Scotty: Good to see ya back! Glad you like Fridays. Yeah, don’t get drunk this weekend, flip a website! lol
@Elijah: Right on the button.
@Freddie: LOL@ Pet Rocks.
@Jarret: Dude, I almost spit out my coffee when that came through to my email. lol@ being shot for not flipping a website.
Cheers guys!

I’m thinking of trying my hand at flipping websites and found your site through a search. Now to go read your past posts on the subject.

Easy? Site flipping is so easy even SuiteJ can do it. LoL. How is that for a headline. (jk)
I’m afraid im the one you are referring to when you say, “that more info is what some people are always looking for”. That is me.
And that’s a good thing, too. Cause why else would i come to your blog? Because im always info hunting. Need more, more, more.
Good post. (as always)
P.S. What are your thoughts on Bryan’s upcoming flipping blueprint?

I haven’t flipped a Website yet, but it seems fairly easy. I make a steady enough income from affiliate marketing through ppc ads that I don’t have to work at all.
I really don’t know why I haven’t started flipping Websites. I attempted to sell my own site before, because blogging is beginning to require too much of my attention.
It wasn’t sold simply because my reserve wasn’t met. But you might see it up on Sitepoint again in a month or two.
I guess I’m just comfortable with my income, which is not good — I should want more. And it actually goes against what I believe in.
Another thing might be is, I don’t like “jumping on the bandwagon”. But then again, I should, if that “bandwagon” is filled with gold.

I love flipping. I have done it many times and will continue to do it. Its like real estate but is based on site growth, which is almost endless.

You have me with your headline - too easy. Since Ryan “the kid” is doing away with his ebook, I’m looking forward to yours.
By the way, what do you think of Article Marketing Automation? I’m now using it to spin fresh articles everyday to the other blog of mine (hopefully it’s going to be my first flip..)

Great post!
When I started my website flipping career with plr ebook -sites, i didn’t believe that it would work. But I created sites in 15-30 minutes and sold them for $50-120 bucks each. Now I’m making most of my money by website flipping.

@Patricia: Glad you found my site! I’ve covered quite a few website flipping topics on Flippin’ Fridays, but if you have any questions feel free to ask! Thanks for coming by and hope to see you around more often!
@Missy: lol@ good that you need more cause it brings you back! Good point. But, what I’m saying is to get your hands dirty with the basics “while you’re learning”. Nothing is as effective as actual ‘experience”.
I don’t really have any thoughts on Bryan’s website flipping ebook until I read it. He has solid experience so I’m sure it will be good. It kinda has to be though, priced at $97.
@Luis: Yeah, some people just aren’t interested in doing it, or maybe want some info to sell one site of theirs leisurely or whatever. Most of these little “motivating” posts are aimed at those who are itching to do it but have something holding them back.
Email me a link to your auction (the past one that ended).
@Ryan: I agree. Most of my focus so far on Flippin’ Fridays has been on flipping “new sites”, but building and/or buying a site to grow long term with the intention of flipping for bigger figures is even more exciting
Thanks for coming by and hope to see ya back!
@Yan: Cool, glad I snagged somebody with the “too easy”.
You’re “looking forward to my ebook”???? Who told you I have an ebook coming!? Spill it Yan!!
Cheers guys!

@Blackhatway: Cool! Did you just sell a PLR ebook and landing/sales page type of thing or did you build a unique blog/site around the book to go with it?
September 27th, 2008 at 7:51 am
This is a great post. I really agree that there are niches that you can target to and that there are lots of great wordpress themes out there. Theres a lot of themes that you can very easily customize and put together and that can really leverage the price of your sale depending on how the blog looks too. Great post.

I really need to start flipping. I’ve setup a lot of blogs and automated blogs in just a couple of hours (buy domain, setup, SEO, write content) and it’s really dead easy with wordpress. I just have to get in the business and check what this is all about!

Just a note to Blackhatway’s comment: Flipping PLR products+sites (nothing extra added, no blog, no unique sales design etc) is still easy if you have a good domain name for the site. I’ve recently flipped a couple of these sites for $45-$60/each. It’s not a lot, but it’s still a nice amount of money considering I worked on each site about 10 minutes (buying the domain, setting the name server, uploading the site+product, setting the payment link). A profit of $40-$50 for 10 minutes if work is really cool.
September 29th, 2008 at 1:03 am
@Enkay: Yeah, I just had to do the “it’s so easy to get started” spiel one more time. I’ll stop now. lol. Glad you liked it.
@Ben: Yeah, and having a solid procedure to go through every time on set up, etc really helps increase your “hourly wage”. Sometimes I slip on that because I like to add little deign features…but I can pup them out when needed.
@Young Entrepreneur: Exactly, and this is what I’m saying. When I see people looking how to make just a few bucks online, flipping is good way to get started, espeically if you already have experience setting up blogs, themes, etc.
Cheers guys, and thanks for coming by!
